The dermoscopic structures and patterns visualized are influenced by the micro-anatomy of the skin. This in turn impacts the algorithms used to in differentiating benign from malignant skin lesions. It is well known that the skin microanatomy on the face and glabrous skin (i.e., palms, soles, mucous membranes, nail unit) differs from the rest of the skin. The Dermoscopy Workshop this year will focus on the structures and patterns encountered on these 'special sites.'
