Philip LeBoit, MD
Dr. Philip LeBoit is a Professor of Pathology and Dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco. He is board certified in anatomic pathology, dermatopathology, and clinical pathology; and is licensed in eight states.
Dr. LeBoit’s main dermatopathology research interest is in how to make a more accurate diagnosis based on a skin biopsy. He has studied both inflammatory and neoplastic diseases with particular interest in entities whose essential nature is unclear, such as Spitz’s nevus sometimes simulating melanoma.
Dr. LeBoit’s clinical activity is centered on the UCSF Dermatopathology Service, which he founded in 1987. This is now the largest university-based outreach dermatopathology laboratory in the western United States, seeing over 95,000 cases a year.
Dr. LeBoit is a member of many national and international societies and has served as President of the International Society of Dermatopathology; speaks widely on his field of expertise; has published over 230 peer reviewed articles and reviews; and serves or has served on the editorial boards of eight journals, including a term as editor in chief of the American Journal of Dermatopathology.
