Amy Paller, MD
Amy Paller, MD, MS is the Walter J. Hamlin Chair and Professor of Dermatology, Professor of Pediatrics, and Principal Investigator of the NIH-funded Skin Disease Research Center at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Brown University and her medical degree from Stanford University.
Dr. Paller completed residency training in both Pediatrics and Dermatology at Northwestern University and her postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of North Carolina. She served as Chief of Pediatric Dermatology at Northwestern’s Children’s Hospital until she became Chair of Dermatology in 2004. Dr. Paller has served on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Society for Investigative Dermatology, the Society for Pediatric Dermatology, the Women’s Dermatologic Society, and the American Dermatological Association. She has been President of the Society for Pediatric Dermatology as well as President of the Society for Investigative Dermatology, and is currently President of the Women’s Dermatologic Society. She is a Director of the American Board of Dermatology and Vice-chair of the Dermatology Residency Review Committee. An author of more than 350 original publications, Dr. Paller is an NIH-funded investigator who has served on the NIH Board of Scientific Counselors (NIAMS). Her clinical interests focus on genetic disorders of the skin and cutaneous immunologic disorders in children, including atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. Her laboratory is focused on two major areas: a) the role of keratinocyte gangliosides in skin cancer and diabetic wound healing; and b) topical delivery of siRNA-nanoparticle gene suppression as therapy for skin disorders. Dr. Paller has also directed the Pediatric Dermatology Clinical Trials Unit at Northwestern for the past 20 years, and has been the lead investigator on several landmark trials in pediatric skin disease. She is co-editor of several leading textbooks of dermatology, among them Fitzpatrick’s Dermatology in General Medicine, Pediatric Dermatology, and Hurwitz’s Clinical Pediatric Dermatology. She is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, and serves on the editorial boards of several other journals. Dr. Paller is currently Co-chair of the Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance (PeDRA), Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of the National Eczema Association, Vice President of the International Society for Atopic Dermatitis, and serves on the Medical and Scientific Advisory Boards of the Foundation for Ichthyosis and Related Skin Types, Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Association, International Psoriasis Council, and the Pachyonychia Congenita Project.
